Welcome to the dance course
The first thing you have to do is to make a choice between Cha-cha-cha and Waltz. Please read and watch the videos below. Let yourself be inspired and choose the dance with the character that feels closest to your heart. When you have decided please find the two dances in the drop down menu under Dance Course above.
The Cha-Cha-Cha is flirtatious and playful in character, some even call it 'Cheeky'. The chasse on 4&1 is used to emphasise
the step on beat 1, which may be held a moment longer than the other steps to match the emphasis of the '1' beat in the music. As in most latin dances the steps are taken on the beats, with a strong hip movement as the knee straightens on the half beats in between (on the 1/2-beat). The weight is kept forward in the balls of the feed. The Cha-Cha-Cha exhibits minimal torso movement.

When people hear the phrase 'Ballroom Dance' they invariably think of the Waltz.
Waltz is THE fundamental Ballroom dance. Originating hundreds of years ago in Bavarian Europe, the original waltz had a much faster tempo and was more similar to our modern 'Viennese Waltz'. The dance experienced significant opposition when it was popularized across Europe. The idea of a man holding a woman hip to hip and cavorting about seemed somehow improper.
